As Microsoft marks its 30th anniversary in Egypt, a highly anticipated event demonstrates the company’s dedication to the nation’s digital transformation.
11 February 2025; Cairo, Egypt – Today, Microsoft’s global AI Tour made its stop in Cairo, part of a series happening in over 60 cities worldwide. In collaboration with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the event gathered government officials, business leaders, and tech innovators to showcase the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This significant event not only highlights Microsoft’s three decades in Egypt but also reinforces its commitment to empowering both public and private sectors with innovative technologies.
Notable speakers included H.E. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, and H.E. Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply. They discussed AI’s critical role in helping government agencies enhance public services and streamline operations.
As Egypt transitions to a digital-first approach, this AI Tour promotes conversations on how AI advancements can boost productivity and encourage innovation. It aligns with Egypt’s second edition of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (2025–2030), aiming to position the country as a leader in the Middle East and North Africa for AI. This strategy targets a 7.7% GDP contribution from the ICT sector by 2030 and plans to foster over 250 AI companies while training 30,000 AI professionals.
Lillian Barnard, President of Microsoft Africa, spoke about AI’s transformative power. She mentioned that investments in AI can yield significant returns, highlighting that organizations see a $3.7 return for every dollar spent on Generative AI. For those fully integrating AI, returns can reach as high as $10.3. Microsoft is dedicated to making advanced AI solutions accessible across sectors in Egypt, aiming to enhance both productivity and economic growth.
Mirna Arif, General Manager of Microsoft Egypt, emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to Egypt’s digital journey. She noted Microsoft’s support in using the latest AI advancements to help organizations grow and create lasting impacts.
The event featured spotlight sessions by Microsoft executives, showcasing key AI tools like Microsoft Copilot, which is already in use by nearly 70% of Fortune 500 companies. Participants also explored how AI tools can elevate workplace efficiency and creativity.
Organizations presented their AI-driven successes:
- The Ministry of Higher Education developed an AI-powered tutor using Azure OpenAI, benefiting students at Ain Shams University, with high engagement and many ideas generated.
- Ghabbour Auto Group utilized Microsoft 365 Copilot to enhance its digital presence and customer interaction, leading to improved efficiency and strategic growth.
- B.TECH applied Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot, boosting productivity across teams and enhancing programming efficiency.
