Discover the Future of Cybersecurity & IT: February Spotlight on CCCTC’s Innovative Program

Four years ago, the pandemic changed many things, including how we communicated. Thanks to local newspapers, we managed to keep families informed about our programs through monthly articles.

Now that things are back to normal, we have made some exciting updates to the CCCTC. The facility has been renovated to ensure that our labs match the current needs of local industries. Students now work with modern technology, equipping them with skills needed in today’s job market.

Alongside these renovations, we have introduced a new program and welcomed several new lab instructors. Some familiar faces have moved on due to retirement, making room for fresh energy among the staff. We will highlight these changes throughout the school year to keep our community updated on our career and technical education offerings.

This month, we spotlight our Cybersecurity & Information Technology Program (CIT). Notably, the program has undergone a name and curriculum change, along with a newly updated lab space. Formerly known as the Information Technology Academy, it has evolved to meet the growing importance of cybersecurity in today’s businesses.

We also want to introduce Mr. Jeffrey Williams, a dedicated instructor now in his third year teaching this program. He brings extensive knowledge from his IT background.

Benefits of Being a Student in the Program

In the CIT program at CCCTC, students gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art IT technologies. They learn about computer hardware, networking, cybersecurity, programming, and automation.

This lab experience is unique and better than many traditional school settings. Students don’t just learn theory; they practice what they learn every day in a collaborative environment that reflects real-world workplaces. This prepares them for various pathways, whether it’s furthering their education or stepping directly into the workforce.

The program’s curriculum focuses on real-world skills. Students have opportunities to earn industry-recognized certifications, engage in a capstone project, and participate in competitions. They graduate not just with technical expertise, but also with critical skills like teamwork and communication.

Students leaving the program are ready for the job market. All participants earn an OSHA-10 certification along with the chance to secure credentials such as CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ and Google IT Support Professional Certificate, among others. High achievers might also earn certifications in Python programming and cybersecurity.

Additionally, the CIT program has an articulation agreement with The University of Akron, allowing students to earn college credits for certain courses. This gives them a head start in their higher education journey.

Student Spotlight

Meet Arlo Bell, an outstanding senior from Crestview Local High School. Arlo has consistently excelled, becoming the SkillsUSA Technical Math Champion at local competitions. After successfully competing at regionals, he aims to advance to the state level again this year.

Currently, he’s working on a capstone project involving the creation of a video game using Python. His skills and innovation shine through in every challenge he tackles. Beyond academics, Arlo shows leadership as the President of the local CTSO SkillsUSA chapter.

Instructor Spotlight

Instructor Jeffrey Williams, a proud 2009 graduate of Beaver Local High School, has a rich background in IT. Before teaching, he spent over a decade in various IT roles, climbing his way up to become an IT Administrator.

His shift into education was inspired by his father’s commitment to community service. By teaching in his home county, Mr. Williams aims to impart vital skills to his students, believing deeply in the value of helping others grow.
