Amid preparation for Bharat Tex 2025, we spoke with Dr. P. Alli Rani, the Director, to learn more about SVPISTM’s initiatives and participation in the event.

Dr. Alli Rani highlighted the pressing need for skilled professionals in the textile sector. “To make India a leader in textiles, we need specialists who understand both technology and management,” she said. While many institutions offer technical courses, there’s a gap in advanced management education. SVPISTM was created to fill this gap and develop experts in the field.

India is abundant in textile resources, and sustainability is a key focus. Dr. Alli Rani noted, “We excel in natural fibres, which are becoming essential as the world moves towards eco-friendly materials.” As demand grows for sustainable alternatives, India’s diverse natural fibres put it in a strong position globally.

To harness the potential of India’s textile industry, SVPISTM focuses on educating a new generation of professionals. “It’s not just about knowing how to make textiles; it’s about understanding their chemistry, processes, and sustainability. Our undergraduate programs are tailored to equip students with this specialized knowledge,” Dr. Alli Rani explained.

SVPISTM offers several programs:

  • Undergraduate Programs (3 years):
    • B.Sc Textiles
    • B.Sc Technical Textiles
    • BBA Textile Business Analytics
    • B.Sc Textile & Apparel Design (3 or 4 years)
  • Postgraduate Programs (2 years):
    • MBA in Textile Management
    • MBA in Apparel Management
    • MBA in Retail Management
    • MBA in Technical Textile Management
    • MBA in Textile Business Analytics
    • M.Sc in Textile and Apparel Science (Approval Awaited)

At Bharat Tex 2025, SVPISTM will feature its innovative vegetable leather – a biodegradable alternative to traditional leather. This material, made from upcycled fruit and vegetable waste, reflects the school’s commitment to sustainable practices. “This vegetable leather has excellent thermal insulation and supports our eco-friendly goals,” Dr. Alli Rani explained. They will showcase various prototype products like coats, bags, and mobile covers, all crafted from this sustainable material.

The vegetable leather has undergone thorough testing for performance and durability, confirming its readiness for market use. SVPISTM’s commitment to turning waste into valuable resources is a significant step towards reducing textile and agricultural waste.

As the event approaches, excitement is building at SVPISTM. “We are eager to showcase our courses and innovative solutions at Bharat Tex 2025,” Dr. Alli Rani mentioned. The exhibition also provides students a chance to connect with industry experts and learn about the latest advancements in textiles.
