Discover the Harmonies of Innovation: Join the Southern Miss Vocal Arts and Science Symposium!

On January 31 and February 1, 2025, the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Music will host the Dr. Robert H. McCrary Vocal Arts and Science Symposium at its Hattiesburg campus. This event invites anyone passionate about vocal arts, including teachers, students, and professional singers.

Dr. Kimberley Davis, a voice professor at Southern Miss and the event organizer, said, “This symposium is for everyone who uses their voice, whether for fun or professionally. We have a fantastic lineup of guest clinicians this year, offering insights that will resonate with students and arts lovers alike.”

Among the notable speakers are Dr. Kourtney Austin from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Dr. Stephen F. Austin, a former professor at the University of North Texas. They are both renowned in voice science and pedagogy.

Attendees can also learn from Dr. Jae-Hwa Shin, who works at the Southern Miss School of Media and Communication, Amanda Walsh from the Speaking Center at Southern Miss, and composer William A. Thompson, IV.

The symposium will explore various topics, including vocal techniques, hearing health, and career growth in the music field. There will be masterclasses for both teachers and students, focusing on building classical voices, gospel singing, and developing engaging performances.

This is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your understanding of vocal arts and improve your skills. Don’t miss out!
