Discover the Heart of QCity Metro: Meet Our Lifestyle Editor and Explore People-Centered Storytelling

January 31 marks my last day as editor of QCity Metro, and I’m really looking forward to the next chapter.

Starting February 1, I’ll step into the role of lifestyle editor, focusing more on stories about people and their experiences.

As a former social worker, I’ve spent nearly ten years hearing people’s stories. Since I joined QCity Metro in 2022, I’ve supported our team and worked on various topics, from health to restaurant reviews. It’s been a challenging but rewarding journey.

Throughout my time here, I’ve realized how impactful storytelling can be in Charlotte. It’s incredible how our readers connect with the issues we cover. Yet, it’s the personal stories that have truly resonated with me.

Whether it’s a mother cheering on her son as he chooses music over college, conversations with Black entrepreneurs, or lessons from a 70-year marriage, these narratives are what I believe we should focus on more.

Glenn Burkins, our publisher, shares this vision. He wants us to deepen our coverage of life in Charlotte, and I’m excited to lead this effort that I’ve been advocating for over the past six months.

In my new role, I’ll oversee lifestyle content, which includes local events, restaurant highlights, and features on life in Charlotte. Most importantly, I want to uncover those powerful stories about our community.

But I can’t do it alone. I need your help.

I’m on the lookout for stories that are either completely unique or that reflect real life in Charlotte.

Here are some questions I’m eager to explore:

• How expensive is living in Charlotte? What does a typical budget look like?
• How do newcomers make friends in the city?
• What is the experience of Charlotte’s Black immigrant community?
• What motivates entrepreneurs in today’s climate?
• Where do older adults connect and socialize in a growing city?
• Are long-time residents considering leaving as more newcomers arrive?
• What does a typical day look like for different people in Charlotte?
