Discover the Hottest New Fashion and Lifestyle Brand Set to Transform York’s Empty Shop!

Take a peek at the upcoming Oliver Bonas store in York! This trendy fashion and lifestyle brand plans to open in the old Boots location at King’s Square and Goodramgate. The Boots store closed its doors in 2023, leaving the site empty since then.

Oliver Bonas is known for its unique mix of women’s fashion, homeware, and gifts, and it already has a store in Stonegate, which opened in 2015. However, they will be relocating from that spot to the new site. The Stonegate location is in a historic building, which adds to its charm.

Seeking permission from the City of York Council, Oliver Bonas wants to refresh the Grade II-listed exterior of the Boots building. They plan to repaint it in their signature pastel green and put up new signs. This also includes keeping the current shopfront, which will be repaired where necessary.

The plans show that Oliver Bonas will utilize the lower ground, ground, and first floors of the new location. They intend to create an inviting layout by repositioning walls, adding a new door, and enhancing the lighting. Importantly, they wish to preserve an existing stained-glass window in the building.

As for the upper floors of the King’s Square shop, those will be transformed into residential units by The Helmsley Group, the same organization behind the Coney Street regeneration project.

Oliver Bonas has an interesting history. It all started in 1993 when the founder, Oliver Tress, opened a shop in Fulham to sell unique items he discovered during his travels. Now, with over 80 stores across the UK and Ireland, they’re ready to make their mark in York.

The Stonegate store is steeped in history as well. Its timber facade dates back to the 15th century, and in 1682, it housed a famous bookshop called The Sign Of The Bible. The building earned the nickname House of the Bible, thanks to a distinctive wooden bible that still hangs above its doors.

Stay tuned for the opening date of the new Oliver Bonas store. It’s set to be an exciting addition to York’s shopping scene!
