Discover the Impact of Food: Join the Palos Heights Screening of Food, Inc. 2 at the One Earth Film Festival!

Palos Heights is gearing up to participate in the One Earth Film Festival, marking a new milestone for the city. This event brings together communities throughout the Chicago area to highlight important films about the environment and climate change.

On Saturday, April 26, the Palos Heights Recreation Center will host a screening of Food, Inc. 2, the sequel to the Oscar-nominated documentary Food, Inc. This new film digs deeper into the U.S. food industry, exploring how corporate consolidation impacts consumers, workers, and our planet. It’s directed by the talented duo Robert Kenner and Melissa Robledo.

Pat Stifter, a volunteer with the Palos Heights Green Team, is passionate about this topic. “We all eat, so it’s personal. We need to be aware of the choices we make and how they affect the environment,” she explains.

The One Earth Film Festival is celebrating its 14th year, focusing on environmental and climate justice. The theme this year is “Power in Unity,” running from April 22 to April 28. This initiative connects people through shared experiences and fosters discussions on sustainability.

The screening in Palos Heights is free, but donations are encouraged. Organizers hope attendees will register at the festival’s website, oneearthfilmfest.org.

The Palos Heights Green Team is behind this event, made up of city representatives, local organizations, and eager community volunteers. Stifter reflects on how the reality of climate change has evolved. “We see more plastic in our environment, different weather patterns, and rising emissions, but there are also signs of progress, like cleaner water in Lake Michigan and energy-efficient technologies. It’s up to us to safeguard the Earth for future generations.”

The team chose Food, Inc. 2 after thoughtful consideration. “It resonates with people and sparks important conversations,” Stifter notes.

This film screening is just the start of what the Green Team envisions as a series of community events aimed at boosting sustainability efforts.
