Discover the Innovative ‘Wayne Roberts ’85’ Building: A Hub for Student Collaboration at A&M Mays Business School

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A new building at Mays School of Business is transforming how students and staff learn together. The Wayne Roberts ‘85 Building opened on January 9, just in time for the spring semester, and it’s all about collaboration.

This modern space expands the Mays Business Education Complex and offers a variety of opportunities for group work. Dean Shannon Deer explained, “Teaching has changed a lot. It’s no longer just a teacher lecturing at the front of the room. With new learning methods and online resources, collaboration is key.”

The building itself covers 81,393 square feet and features a big atrium, a café, learning studios, and a special plaza for collaboration. Every classroom is designed to foster interaction, making it easier for students to engage with each other and their professors.

According to Dean Deer, the goal is to create an environment where both students and teachers can work closely together. “These collaborative spaces will help faculty be part of the learning process more actively,” she said. There are also areas outside the classrooms for students to meet, work on projects, and brainstorm together.

The new building aims to meet the growing demand for spaces that support teamwork and hands-on experiences. Sophomore Alex Segura, who studies accounting at Mays, expressed excitement about the new environment. He stated, “I learn best in groups. Having a dedicated space on campus makes it easier to focus and succeed.”

Alex added, “Studying on campus is great for me. At home, I can get distracted, but here, I can work with my friends and really take advantage of the resources we have.”

The Wayne Roberts Building is located on Olsen Road, near the E. L. Wehner building.
