President Donald Trump has issued a new executive order that strengthens the role of the DOGE team within federal agencies. This order outlines specific duties for DOGE staff, aiming to enhance oversight and efficiency in government spending.

The executive order describes how DOGE Team Leads will operate in their assigned federal agencies. Their main responsibility is to help tighten government spending and ensure proper tracking of funds.

Here are some key tasks that DOGE Team Leads must carry out:

• Create a system to track every payment related to contracts and grants, ensuring there’s a written justification for each one.
• Review existing contracts and grants to identify those that should be terminated or adjusted to save money, focusing on educational institutions and foreign entities.
• Assess the agency’s current contracting policies and procedures.
• Provide guidance on signing new contracts or modifying existing ones to enhance efficiency.
• Submit monthly reports to the DOGE Administrator about contracting activities.
• Implement a system for tracking employee travel requests, requiring justifications for non-essential trips.
• Pause employee credit card use for 30 days, except for emergencies or critical services.
• Compile an inventory of agency property, proposing to dispose of items no longer needed.

This order is part of Trump’s broader plan to downsize the federal workforce and cut spending. It builds upon a previous order from Trump’s first day in office that established the DOGE task force in all federal agencies.

However, some groups are exempt from these new rules, such as law enforcement and various critical services. Agency heads can also request further exceptions if needed.

Although Elon Musk is a prominent figure associated with DOGE, the task force is formally led by Amy Gleason, who oversees these initiatives.

Interestingly, the executive order was briefly posted on the White House website but was removed by the next afternoon. The White House did not provide comments on this removal.
