Taipei 101 stands at 1,667 feet with 101 floors. To put that into perspective, a free fall from that height would take about 10 seconds. Honnold will climb without a harness, rope, or net, enhancing the adrenaline factor for viewers.
Honnold has dreamed of scaling Taipei 101 for over a decade. “I’ve hoped to have the opportunity to climb it since then,” he shared.
As Taipei is 13 hours ahead of the East Coast and 16 hours ahead of Los Angeles, while we watch, Honnold will be climbing early Sunday morning. The two-hour livestream promises to be a thrilling spectacle, according to Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s VP of nonfiction series and sports. He believes it will be an unforgettable event that everyone will discuss.
The show will be hosted by former ESPN personality Elle Duncan, with a panel including climber Emily Harrington and Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer. It’s an interesting mix, especially with the inclusion of WWE star Seth Rollins, who is likely there to promote a related Netflix event.
Skyscraper Live is produced by Plimsoll Productions, known for their adventure documentaries. Honnold has worked with them in the past on other climbing series.
