Lindsey Wilson University has unveiled a new Alumni Lounge in the Sue Cravens Stivers Alumni House, creating a welcoming spot for former students. The celebration took place on July 19, 2025, with over two dozen Blue Raiders attending to mark this special occasion.
The newly renovated lounge boasts a spacious meeting area, a conference room, and a kitchen stocked with snacks and drinks, including coffee and espresso options. The walls showcase various Lindsey Wilson artifacts, such as diplomas, class photos, and a classic Blue Raider varsity jacket.
Allison Cross, the university’s Director of Alumni Relations, shared, “This space is a way for us to give back to our alumni who have contributed so much over the years. We hope it becomes a favorite spot for our visitors.” More than 5,700 alumni live in the surrounding six-county area, indicating a strong local connection. Cross anticipates many alumni will stop by whether they’re attending reunions or just passing through.
The renovation process began in June and was described by Cross as “a labor of love.” The teamwork involved reflects the spirit of Lindsey Wilson, with contributions from various staff members and talented craftspeople. Cross emphasized the skill of the Physical Plant staff, stating, “It’s impressive to see their talents up close.”
With Lindsey Wilson’s growth into a university, alumni interest in reconnecting has surged. The campus has dramatically transformed over the last 25 years, making the Stivers Alumni House a familiar gathering place for many. Cross believes the lounge offers a crucial spot for alumni to connect with their alma mater.
The Stivers Building, named in honor of Sue Cravens Stivers, was acquired by the university in the late 1990s. Stivers was a respected leader within Adair County and a dedicated board member. She passed away in 2022, but her legacy of hospitality lives on in the new lounge. Stivers had a passion for teaching etiquette and enjoyed sharing stories, including one about meeting John F. Kennedy during her lessons. “Her classes were always a highlight for students,” Cross fondly recalled.
Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association President Tanner Strein reflected on the lounge’s significance, stating it enhances the Alumni House and symbolizes the university’s ongoing support for its alumni. Alex Strein, the past president of the association, echoed these sentiments, saying, “No matter what we call Lindsey Wilson, it’s always going to feel like home.”
Lindsey Wilson University, located in Columbia, Kentucky, has a rich history dating back to 1903. Affiliated with The United Methodist Church, the institution aims to provide a nurturing educational environment. It offers 28 undergraduate majors, five graduate programs, and a doctoral program, alongside a thriving athletics program with over 120 national championships.
As alumni revisit their old campus, the new lounge adds to a sense of community and belonging, making it a cherished space for all Blue Raiders.
