Beach Food Pantry has opened a new satellite food pantry in Rodanthe, aiming to help those facing food insecurity in Dare County. This new location is part of their effort to reach underserved families and individuals on Hatteras Island.
The pantry is set up at Fair Haven United Methodist Church, located at 24240 Seabreeze Drive. It officially opened on January 13, 2025.
Initially, the pantry will be open on Mondays and Thursdays. These days offer access to healthy foods and important resources for those in need. Feedback from the community could lead to even more service options in the future.
Elisabeth Silverthorne, the Executive Director of Beach Food Pantry, expressed her excitement, saying, “We are thrilled to extend our services to Rodanthe and the surrounding communities. Our mission is to ensure no one goes hungry, and this location helps us reach those who struggle with transportation issues.”
The Rodanthe pantry will offer a variety of items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, pantry staples, and frozen goods. It will also provide information about other local resources that can assist families in need.
Silverthorne noted that this expansion took over a year to plan and would not have been possible without the hard work of volunteers and the generosity of donors. “Together, we are creating a stronger support system for our neighbors,” she added.
To qualify for assistance, individuals must live or work in Dare County and fill out an online application beforehand. Those without internet access can receive help from staff members.
