Bellaire, Ohio, is welcoming a new health resource for its community. The Ohio Hills Health Centers (OHHC) has partnered with Bellaire Local Schools to open a school-based health center right inside Bellaire High School. This center is designed to serve students and staff, but starting June 9, it will also be open to everyone in the community.
“Think of it like a doctor’s office, but in a school,” said Jeff Britton, CEO of OHHC. “We provide complete primary health care services and accept insurance just like any regular doctor’s office.” This collaboration has been a great opportunity to bring vital healthcare services to the Bellaire area.
The staff includes Ryan Aston, a Physician Assistant, along with other trained professionals who will keep the center operational throughout the year, even during summer.
Derrick McAfee, Superintendent of Bellaire Local Schools, noted the positive impact the center could have. “This clinic can help reduce absenteeism and improve students’ health,” he remarked. “We’re excited to extend these services to the entire community.”
This new health center comes thanks to a grant from the Ohio Department of Health, emphasizing the state’s commitment to improving health and education. Research shows that school-based health centers can greatly benefit students. They often lead to better academic outcomes and overall health improvements.
In an era where access to healthcare is crucial, especially post-pandemic, the opening of this center addresses a significant need. A 2022 survey indicated that 70% of parents in Ohio support school-based health services, highlighting a strong community desire for accessible healthcare.
Ohio Hills Health Centers doesn’t just stop with the school health center. They also offer a Patient Discount Program for eligible families and can help with Medicare and Medicaid applications, ensuring that finances don’t stand in the way of health.
