Fairphone has just unveiled its latest smartphone, the Fairphone 6. This model is smaller and lighter than the last version, but it packs a punch with a larger battery that can last up to 53 hours. You can find the Fairphone 6 in black, green, and white for around €599 (about $696). In the U.S., it will only be available through Murena, equipped with a privacy-focused version of Android called /e/OS, available for preorder at $899.

Under the hood, the Fairphone 6 boasts a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage expandable to 2TB. The display is a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED, slightly smaller than the previous model but enhanced with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Camera-wise, it holds a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens on the back, alongside a 32MP camera for selfies. While these specs are solid, they mark a downgrade from the previous Fairphone 5, which had 50MP sensors on all three cameras.

The design has a familiar look but features a more modular back. You can easily swap out parts, making repairs simpler. Fairphone prioritizes repairability, allowing you to change out 12 different components with just a standard screwdriver.

To extend the phone’s longevity, it comes with a five-year warranty and promises eight years of software support, reaching into 2033. However, it has a limited IP55 rating for water and dust resistance—fine for splashes but not for underwater use.

A new software feature called Fairphone Moments lets you switch between a full smartphone experience and a minimalist mode, reducing distractions.

According to a recent survey by the International Telecommunication Union, consumer interest in repairable electronics is rising, with nearly 60% of consumers considering longevity and repairability as key purchasing factors. Fairphone’s focus on sustainability may resonate well in this climate.
