Clarksville, TN – The Ellis Family Foundation, along with Tim and Dena Ellis, has made a heartfelt contribution to Austin Peay State University (APSU). They established the Jerome P. Ellis Memorial Education Endowed Scholarship to honor Tim’s father, Jerome P. Ellis.
This scholarship is aimed at APSU students enrolled in the Eriksson College of Education. Applicants need a minimum 3.0 GPA and must be full-time students. However, this award is non-renewable, meaning it’s a one-time assistance.
Tim Ellis shared, “This scholarship keeps my dad’s spirit alive. He dedicated his life to education, and I know he would be thrilled to see future educators benefit from this fund.”
Jerome P. Ellis, who earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from APSU, dedicated 37 years to the Robertson County School System. He served as the director of schools and was passionate about expanding educational opportunities. This scholarship will support aspiring educators who want to make a positive impact on students’ lives.
Kris Phillips, APSU’s Vice President for Alumni, Engagement and Philanthropy, emphasized the importance of dedicated educators. “This scholarship not only aids future teachers but also commemorates an inspiring educator. It truly embodies the Govs for Life Experience,” he said.
Endowments like this one are managed by the APSU Foundation. The scholarship amount may vary, depending on the fund’s value and how the Foundation allocates its spending.
Scholarships like this are crucial. According to recent studies, financial aid significantly increases college completion rates. A report by the National Center for Education Statistics highlights that students receiving scholarships are more likely to finish their degrees than those without financial support.
Donating to an endowment helps create more opportunities for students in need. Contributions underscore the importance of investing in education and the future generation.
