Indian Railways has made some interesting updates to the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express. This train began its journey on June 6, 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagging it off. Now, after four months, there are changes to its schedule and stops.
Train Overview
The train, designated as 26401/26402, covers 191 km in just under three hours. Until now, it only stopped at Banihal. But starting from October 29, 2025, it will also pause at Reasi for two minutes in both directions. This change aims to cater to the rising number of passengers from the Reasi district, a spot popular for its religious significance and stunning views, including the famous Vaishno Devi shrine and the Chenab Bridge.
Uchit Singhal, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Jammu Division, emphasized that this new stop aims to improve travel for local passengers. With Reasi being a key area for tourism, this adjustment could help boost local businesses.
Timings
For those planning to ride this train, here are the key timings:
- Katra to Srinagar: Depart at 08:10 and arrive at 11:08.
- Srinagar to Katra: Leave at 14:00 and reach by 16:58.
Understanding the Impact
Enhanced rail connectivity helps meet the growing travel needs in the region. A recent survey found that nearly 70% of the travelers prefer train travel for such routes due to comfort and speed. Moreover, the introduction of new stops can significantly impact local economies by facilitating easier access to tourist sites.
As train travel continues to evolve in India, it’s crucial for authorities to adapt to passenger needs. This new stop at Reasi is a perfect example of how feedback can shape better transportation options.
By focusing on efficiency and comfort, the Vande Bharat Express is setting a new standard for rail travel in India.
