Recently, Thrive Peninsula partnered with the United Jewish Community of the Virginia Peninsula to create a special Kosher for Passover section. This initiative is aimed at helping Jewish families celebrate the Passover holiday with traditional foods.

Eric Maurer, the CEO of the United Jewish Community, highlighted the importance of this service. "We found families who need access to food like this," he explained. With Passover starting on April 12, the timing couldn’t be better.

Passover commemorates the Exodus from Egypt, a significant event in Jewish history. Maurer shared a powerful story from this holiday: when the Israelites fled Egypt, they didn’t have time to let their bread rise. This led to the tradition of eating matzah, or unleavened bread. For many Jewish families, this week is not only a time to remember their heritage but also a time when dietary changes are common.

However, with grocery prices on the rise, preparing special Passover meals can be a financial burden for some families. “For those struggling, it’s a harsh reminder that they may not feel truly free during a festival that celebrates freedom,” Maurer noted.

This model of support could inspire other food pantries. By providing a respectful and dignified experience, Thrive aims to break down barriers to accessing food assistance. "Thrive helps remove obstacles for people seeking help," Maurer pointed out.

The spirit of Passover is inclusive. Maurer shared a beautiful tradition: during the Seder meal, it is said, “Let all who are hungry come and eat." This is more than just words; it’s a call to action for the community to ensure everyone has the opportunity to celebrate.
