Peoples Community Health Clinic Opens in Traer
Traer has a new healthcare option! Peoples Community Health Clinic opened its doors on May 4, 2026. The clinic is located in the former MercyOne building on Walnut Street. This opening came after MercyOne Traer Family Medicine closed unexpectedly in December 2025, leaving residents searching for care.
On May 20, a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the new clinic. Christine Kemp, the CEO, and nurse practitioner Beth Myhr were present, along with local officials and community members. Beth, easily spotted in her lab coat, is eager to help patients of all ages.
“The first few weeks have been going really well,” Beth shared. Many of her patients were previously seen at MercyOne. She recalls her first day, filled with appointments from the get-go.
A Community Resource
The clinic is part of a larger network. Peoples Community Health Clinic also has locations in Waterloo and Clarksville. Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) like this one provide essential health services regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. They also offer sliding-scale fees based on income.
Myhr has high hopes for the new site. Although there is a nationwide nursing shortage, the clinic plans to enhance services. A psychiatric nurse and therapist from Waterloo will visit every two weeks starting in July. In the fall, they intend to add pharmacy services, allowing patients to fill prescriptions at a discounted rate.
Looking Ahead
Peoples Community Health Clinic accepts all major insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare. They also provide services to those without insurance, helping to ensure that everyone in the community can access care.
To make an appointment or learn more, people can call 319-652-3332 or check the clinic’s website. They’re open Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.
With ongoing community support, Peoples Community Health Clinic is poised to be a vital part of healthcare in Traer, making wellness accessible for everyone.
