Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Updates
The Indian Railways has rolled out major changes to ticketing for the Vande Bharat Express, particularly affecting the sleeper trains. From now on, passengers can only book confirmed tickets. This elimination of Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) tickets aims to enhance passenger comfort and simplify the booking process.
One important aspect of this new system is its transparency. Every traveler will have equal access to tickets, which is a shift from previous practices that sometimes favored certain groups. This move reflects Indian Railways’ dedication to fair and straightforward travel for everyone.
Under the new rules, the sleeper trains will only operate on journeys longer than 400 kilometers. So, if you’re planning to travel, you’ll need a confirmed ticket. RAC, waitlisted, or partially confirmed reservations will no longer be offered. Additionally, tickets for these routes will be available right from the start of the Advance Reservation Period (ARP).
The minimum fare for the Sleeper Class is set at Rs 149 for trips of 200 kilometers. This new pricing structure aims to keep travel affordable for the masses while ensuring that demand can be met effectively.
Moreover, the Railways has streamlined its passenger quotas. Now, there are only three categories: for women, senior citizens, and disabled individuals. Lower berths will be prioritized for senior citizens and parents traveling with children. This means that men over 60 and women over 45 will have better chances of securing these spots, making travel easier and more comfortable for those who need it most.
Interestingly, recent social media discussions have emerged around these changes, with many passengers expressing relief at the removal of RAC tickets. This modernized approach to ticketing shows a shift toward a user-friendly experience in public transport.
In an interview, transport expert Dr. Raghav Patel mentioned, “Eliminating RAC tickets is a bold step. It reflects a growing trend in public transport towards greater efficiency and passenger satisfaction.”
