The list of podcasts up for the 2026 Golden Globes’ first-ever Best Podcast award has been announced. Some notable contenders include “20/20” from ABC News, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” and “Armchair Expert” with Dax Shepard, among many others.
The Golden Globes have a history of celebrating film and television, but they’re now diving into the podcasting world. This new category will honor the top 25 most-listened-to podcasts that have made a significant impact over the past year. This selection is based on data from popular platforms like Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.
Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes organization, shared her excitement about this shift. She noted that podcasts are an important medium for storytelling, helping people connect across different cultures and generations. By including the podcast category, the Golden Globes are embracing new voices and formats while still honoring traditional entertainment.
The nominations will be revealed closer to the event, which will take place on January 11, 2026, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. For the first time, “The Hollywood Reporter” will produce a Podcast Roundtable featuring some of the top contenders, in collaboration with Spotify. This roundtable will air in November across THR’s platforms and Spotify’s.
Podcasting has gained massive popularity in recent years. According to Edison Research, about 57% of Americans ages 12 and older have listened to a podcast. The average podcast listener consumes around 7 episodes a week. This surge in interest highlights the role of podcasts in contemporary media.
As the podcast landscape continues to evolve, the Golden Globes are recognizing its significance, setting the stage for a fresh perspective in entertainment.
