Discover the Only First-Party Nintendo Game That Won’t Be Compatible with Switch 2!

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, and it promises to play most of the original Switch games without a hitch. Nintendo recently shared that nearly all major titles will work, with just one exception: Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit. This game’s unique design means it won’t be compatible with the larger Switch 2.

In April, Nintendo revealed that around 120 games could have compatibility issues. Initially, there was confusion about what these issues meant—some games might struggle at startup, while others may face in-game problems. However, recent updates clarify that only one first-party game will be unplayable. Good news for fans of Doom Eternal, which is among the titles expected to work well on the new console.

Nintendo’s backward compatibility list, published on May 27, provided more details about game performance. Most first-party games will function as planned, but some older titles like 1-2 Switch and Ring Fit Adventure will require connecting an original Joy-Con to the new system. Additionally, Fitness Boxing will need an update to run smoothly.

For third-party games, the outlook is also positive. Nintendo has collaborated with game publishers, and now, 118 games have been flagged as having startup issues. However, more than 20 of these titles are set for updates that will resolve the majority of the incompatibilities at launch or shortly thereafter.

Interestingly, some popular streaming apps like Hulu and Crunchyroll won’t be available on the Switch 2. It’s unclear if this is due to future updates or if these services won’t support the new hardware yet.

This launch reflects a trend seen in gaming where backward compatibility becomes increasingly vital. Recent statistics show that 74% of gamers value the ability to play old favorites on new consoles. Nintendo’s approach suggests they’re listening to their audience, ensuring that players can enjoy a broad library of games without missing a beat.
