After nine weeks of exciting performances, it was time for the big showdown on The Masked Singer. In this episode, titled "Merging of the Masks," the final six contestants duelled it out for a shot at the Golden Mask Trophy, bringing back some masked faces we haven’t seen in a while, like Paparazzo and Coral.
The panelists got to ask quick questions to each performer, which added to the thrill. A highlight was when Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel surprised everyone by appearing on stage as a clue for Paparazzo’s identity.
The contestants didn’t hold back. Mad Scientist Monster belted out "There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back," while Nessy sang "Stargazing." Coral rocked "Ain’t It Fun," and Paparazzo brought a nostalgic vibe with TLC’s "Unpretty." Pearl brought high energy with "Conga," and Boogie Woogie closed strong with "Unsteady."
Eventually, Paparazzo was unmasked, revealing none other than Matthew Lawrence, recognizable from hits like Boy Meets World, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Brotherly Love. Surprisingly, he made it further in the competition than his brother Joey, who was the Walrus in season eight.
In an interview, Lawrence shared how he ended up on the show. He initially hesitated due to his fear of singing in front of an audience. A friend convinced him to take a chance, saying the mask could help with his nerves. "I’m trying to live in a space where I don’t let fear dictate my life," he explained, and he chose to embrace the challenge.
Lawrence didn’t even know Danielle Fishel would be part of the show. "They lock you down on this show," he remarked, emphasizing how strictly they keep the identities and surprises under wraps.
When asked about Ben Savage being guessed as Paparazzo, he expressed his fondness for his former co-star. "I love that he guessed Ben," he said, underscoring their strong friendship.
Reflecting on his experience, Lawrence cherished the bonds he made, particularly with a producer who he felt a connection with. One standout moment for him was his performance of "Hallelujah." He felt a rush of pure joy and lost himself in the music.
Would he sing again? Absolutely. Lawrence now feels more open to pursuing singing opportunities. “I will definitely say yes and give it my best shot,” he assured.
The excitement doesn’t end here. As the competition progresses, the audience will be eager to see who takes home the trophy, especially with panelists like McCarthy-Wahlberg already racking up guesses.
