Wright State University has celebrated a remarkable achievement: six of its student-athletes were named to the Horizon League Baseball All-Academic Team this year. This is the highest number from any team in the conference. To qualify for this honor, athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher and meet specific academic and participation requirements.
Wright State’s players showed impressive academic performance with a team GPA of 3.543. Notably, 22 players achieved a GPA above 3.00 in the recent semester.
Highlights of the Honorees
Patrick Fultz, a graduate student in business, leads with a perfect 4.00 GPA. This is his first time on the All-Academic Team. On the field, he stands out as a first baseman, hitting .380 and knocking seven home runs during conference play.
Gus Gregory, majoring in organizational leadership, holds a strong 3.97 GPA. He has received this honor for the third consecutive year. On the field, Gregory has a .279 batting average and recently earned the title of Horizon League Batter of the Week after an impressive performance that saw him hit three home runs in three games.
Chet Lax, studying marketing, achieved a GPA of 3.42. This year marks his first All-Academic recognition. Lax has made a significant impact as a pitcher, recording nine wins and a 3.82 ERA, earning him the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week award twice.
Griffen Paige, also a management major, has a GPA of 3.44. In his junior year, he has excelled on the mound, with a 4.83 ERA and ranking high nationally in hits allowed per nine innings.
JP Peltier, another marketing student, has a GPA of 3.74 and has earned this honor for the second time. He leads the league with 20 doubles and had an impressive start to the season, being named Horizon League Batter of the Season.
Finally, Hunter Warren, majoring in organizational leadership with a GPA of 3.39, has excelled as a leadoff hitter. He leads the team and conference with a .374 batting average and 75 hits, also earning the title of Horizon League Batter of the Week mid-season.
These accomplishments reflect the hard work and dedication these athletes put into both their studies and their sport. Balancing academics with athletics is no easy task, but Wright State’s players have shown it’s possible to excel in both arenas.

According to a recent NCAA report, student-athletes are increasingly succeeding in the classroom, with a record-high graduation rate of 88%. This trend highlights the growing commitment to academic achievement among collegiate athletes.
