Ubuntu 25.10, named “Questing Quokka,” has unveiled its fresh desktop background and mascot. This vibrant new design welcomes users who install or upgrade to this version with a playful quokka set against a rich purple gradient.
The latest wallpaper continues the tradition of unique releases since version 17.10. It features a line-drawn quokka over a dynamic background that enhances its depth. Surrounding the mascot are angular shapes, adding dimension and flair to the visual experience.
The design includes a circle made to look like a topographic map, symbolizing a quest. A dashed line weaves through, referencing the journey implied in “Questing Quokka.” This clever twist invites users to explore their system’s capabilities.
Alongside the standard colorful wallpaper, Ubuntu 25.10 will offer light and dimmed versions. A dynamic option will switch between these based on the user’s light or dark mode settings.
Canonical’s design team also rolled out four alternate designs, showcasing the map motif across the entire wallpaper. Each comes in color, light, dark, and dimmed versions, providing users with various aesthetic choices.
As of now, these wallpapers aren’t yet part of the daily builds, but they’ve been added to the source code. Users can expect them in upcoming software updates, and they will be available for download soon.
This release doesn’t just add new visuals; it reflects a growing trend in desktop design—a focus on user experience and personalization. According to a recent survey by Stack Overflow, 92% of developers prefer customized setups, aiming for environments that resonate with their workflows and personalities.
Overall, Ubuntu 25.10 captures the playful spirit of exploration while enhancing desktop aesthetics, blending function with fun.
