WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – North Carolina Central’s women’s golf team is making waves. They recently secured fourth place at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, a competitive event held at Kingsmill Resort.
In just six tournaments this season, the Eagles have impressively finished in the top four four times. Their latest score was 940 over three rounds, finishing just nine strokes behind Sacred Heart’s 931. Dartmouth took the top spot with an 885, while Navy came in second with a score of 908.
Cailynn Winford was a standout player, finishing 16th with a score of 233. Close behind her was Mya Smith, who tied for 17th at 234. Sanaa Carter and Sidney Renville also performed well, landing in 21st and 34th place, respectively.
Dartmouth’s Sophie Thai emerged as the individual champion with a score of 214 in a field of 92 golfers playing on a par 72, 5,947-yard course.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will be competing at The Mimosa Invitational next week at Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Morganton, N.C. Action kicks off on March 30 and wraps up on March 31.

According to a recent report by the National Golf Foundation, female golfers make up about 30% of the sport in the U.S. Yet, their participation is on the rise.
