Here are the top five African countries making waves in soft power for 2026:

Egypt holds the 40th spot with its rich cultural heritage and active regional diplomacy. Landmarks like the Pyramids alongside its strong media presence in film and literature allow Egypt to stand out as a global influencer.

South Africa ranks 43rd worldwide, driven by its vibrant culture and successful sports. The country’s dynamic cities and involvement in international forums give it a strong voice that resonates beyond its borders.

Morocco is 50th, bolstered by diplomacy and cultural ties across multiple regions. Its educational initiatives and partnerships help it navigate global perceptions effectively, blending heritage with modern aspirations.

Nigeria ranks 71st, largely due to its entertainment industry, known as Nollywood, and its music scene, especially Afrobeat. The country’s tech boom and regional leadership in trade allow it to wield influence both locally and in the diaspora.

With a score of 36.8, Algeria sits at 74th. Its strengths include a robust energy sector and cultural exports, which help shape policy and opinion both regionally and globally.

Recent social media trends show a growing interest in African cultures, especially music and films, thanks to platforms like TikTok and streaming services. This surge in visibility is helping African countries bolster their soft power even further.
