Fast food fish sandwiches are popular, especially in spring during Lent, when many people avoid meat. Some chains take this opportunity to promote their fish offerings.
Last year, I wanted to find the best fish sandwich out there. As someone who doesn’t usually like fish sandwiches, I didn’t expect to be impressed. But then I tried Long John Silver’s Fish Sandwich, and I was surprised.
Long John Silver’s Fish Sandwich
Imagine you’ve eaten ten fish sandwiches, feeling let down by most of them. You take a bite of the last one, and suddenly, it’s amazing. This was my experience with Long John Silver’s sandwich.
I hadn’t previously tasted anything from Long John Silver’s, so I was shocked to discover that, among big names like Burger King and McDonald’s, it stood out as the best. What makes this sandwich so special?
First, it features a battered Alaskan pollock fillet, nestled in a toasted bun with crinkle-cut pickles and tartar sauce. The breading on the fish is just right—crispy but not overly thick. Many fish sandwiches end up soggy with sauce, but this one holds its texture well. Honestly, if it were drenched in the tartar sauce, I wouldn’t mind. The sauce has a great blend of sweetness and tang, enhanced by dill.
If you’re looking for a fish sandwich this Lent or just in need of a quick seafood fix, Long John Silver’s is a solid choice. After all, a seafood-focused chain has a good handle on making the best fish sandwiches.
