Recently, singer Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, has opened up about his own experiences in this arrangement. Following his divorce from Crystal Renay in 2023, he shared that he’s in a relationship with four women: Cristina, Arielle, Moneii, and Bri.
Ne-Yo is also a father of seven. He shares three kids with Renay, two with his ex-fiancée Monyetta Shaw-Carter, and two with influencer Sade Jenea Bagnerise. He shared, “When I got with these women, I did not ask for their exclusivity. They came to me and said, ‘I want to be exclusive to you and just you.'” Ne-Yo makes it clear that honesty is key. His number one rule in these relationships is transparency—no lying. He believes in keeping communication open, stating that if someone decides the lifestyle isn’t for them, they are free to leave.
In recent years, interest in polyamory has surged. A 2022 survey revealed that about 4-5% of the U.S. population identifies as polyamorous, a number that has been steadily rising. Many young adults are questioning traditional relationship norms, opting for more flexible arrangements like Ne-Yo’s.
