20-Coach Vande Bharat Express Trains: To meet growing passenger needs, Indian Railways is boosting capacity on several Vande Bharat Express trains. This includes changes to the 30th Vande Bharat train.

On September 24, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this train. It originally ran between Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram. By March 2024, the route extended to Mangaluru Central, serviced by the Southern Railway zone.

Initially, the train had eight coaches. However, starting May 22, 2025, it was upgraded to include eight more, bringing the total to 16. The new setup consists of 14 Chair Car Coaches and 2 Executive Class Coaches.

The rising demand for seats led to a decision to introduce a 20-coach configuration. This adds 312 seats to the existing 1,128, making a total of 1,440 available for commuters on this route.

• Train number 20631 Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express will operate with the new 20-coach rake from September 9, 2025.
• Train number 20632 Thiruvananthapuram Central-Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express will also adopt the 20-coach rake from the same date.

After these changes, both trains will feature 16 Chair Car Coaches and 2 Executive Class Coaches. Currently, there are 150 Vande Bharat services running across India, providing world-class amenities and advanced safety features, including Kavach technology.

In recent years, Vande Bharat trains have become increasingly popular. According to a survey by Indian Railways, passenger satisfaction rates for these trains have reached 90%, reflecting the premium experience they provide. Experts in transportation highlight how these upgrades not only improve comfort but also stimulate local economies by enhancing connectivity.

This upgrade to 20 coaches responds directly to the needs of today’s commuters while setting a high standard for future rail travel in India.
