The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Pop Up Gardens are back, adding excitement to Manayunk and South Street. These outdoor spaces are perfect for relaxing with friends over good food and drinks, surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers.
The gardens had a soft opening on March 13, with a grand opening scheduled for March 27. They welcome guests through late fall, making it a great spot for a seasonal hangout.
Each spring, these gardens transform empty lots into vibrant spaces. Visitors can enjoy delicious meals and drinks, participate in events, and even join fun workshops. For plant lovers, the free monthly Plant Swap lets guests exchange plants and discover new favorites.
One fascinating aspect of these gardens is that they give a second life to many plants from the Philadelphia Flower Show. After the show ends, flowering shrubs and other plants are relocated to brighten the gardens.
At both locations, the menus are diverse. From vegetarian options to comfort food, there’s something for everyone. The Manayunk garden offers tasty nibbles like fried cauliflower and loaded fries, while South Street features global flavors, including Jamaican jerk wings and unique dips.
Throughout the season, both gardens host various activities. The monthly Rooted Workshops inspire participants with hands-on gardening tasks. They’ve featured creative ideas like making terrariums and pressed flower art.
Live music nights and fun events like karaoke create a lively atmosphere. Visitors can catch Phillies games too! Notably, the Manayunk location is starting a Sunday Garden Market with local vendors showcasing brunch goodies.
With their planned hours and a cozy vibe, these Pop Up Gardens invite everyone to unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature right in the city.
