Since 1966, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center has been a beacon of education about our natural environment. Visitors come to see live animal exhibits, participate in educational programs, enjoy scenic cruises on Squam Lake, and explore a beautiful botanical garden. We also run the Blue Heron School, a Montessori early learning center focused on nature.
Our 2025 Goals
We have set four key priorities in our 2022-2026 Strategic Plan:
- Animal Care: We strive to be outstanding stewards of our animals.
- Climate Action: We are dedicated to addressing climate change.
- Inclusivity: We believe in making nature accessible to all.
- Financial Strength: We aim to enhance the Center’s financial health for a sustainable future.
Each day, we work hard to reach these goals and improve the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center.
Fundraising Events
Throughout the year, we host various public events to connect people with nature. In the summer, we hold two special fundraising events: the Family Picnic in July and the Garden Party in August. The Family Picnic is a fun evening filled with food trucks, games, animal programs, and live music. The Garden Party is a more elegant affair, featuring cocktails in the stunning Kirkwood Gardens.
