Local entrepreneur Cirilo Rodriguez has expanded his culinary footprint in Danbury with the opening of Torre Fuerte Cafe on Newtown Road. This new cafe blends Colombian and Ecuadorian dishes with a touch of Puerto Rican flair.
During the grand opening on April 15, city leaders, including Mayor Roberto Alves, joined in the celebrations. Alves praised Rodriguez’s entrepreneurial spirit, highlighting his contribution to the local community. “Cirilo Rodriguez embodies Danbury’s vibrant business scene,” he said.
Rodriguez initially opened Torre Fuerte Deli, another local gem, serving traditional Latin cuisine along with deli favorites like Cuban sandwiches. This success shows the potential for small businesses to flourish in Danbury.
Torre Fuerte Cafe offers a feast of authentic Colombian dishes. Bandeja paisa, for instance, is a hearty platter with rice, beans, grilled steak, sausage, and fried plantains. It’s a must-try! Another highlight is the Ecuadorian ceviche—poached seafood marinated in lime and orange juice, mixed with onions and cilantro. Plus, the menu features Puerto Rican frituras, tasty fried snacks like alcapurrias and pastelillos.
Mayor Alves believes this growth reflects a strong business environment in Danbury. “We’re not just seeing new entrepreneurs emerge; existing businesses are also finding confidence to expand,” he said. This momentum is vital for the local economy.
The rise of Latino-owned restaurants is also notable. It’s a sign of individuals investing in their communities and pursuing their versions of the American Dream. According to a recent report from the National Restaurant Association, Hispanic-owned restaurants contribute over $50 billion to the U.S. economy.
