TROY, Ala. – The Troy men’s tennis team is on a roll, winning five matches in a row. This weekend, they’ll hit the road to face two Alabama teams. First, they’ll play Alabama A&M in Huntsville at 1 p.m. on Friday. Then, they’ll head to Alabama State on Saturday, also at 1 p.m.
With a solid record of 10-4 this season, the Trojans are aiming for an eighth consecutive win before they wrap up non-conference play next week. Their last match was a strong 5-2 victory against South Carolina State in Orlando, Florida.
During this winning streak, Troy has won the doubles point in four matches. They’ve been doing well in doubles all season, boasting a 23-14 record. Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto are the team leaders with 10 doubles wins, while Henrique de Brito and Yeray Andres Pastor are undefeated at 6-0.
When Troy leads 1-0 after doubles, they have a fantastic 8-1 record. In singles play, they have a combined record of 47-23. Sakamoto has stood out with an impressive 11-1 record, and he is currently on a nine-match winning streak. Both Alcocer and Andres Pastor are also performing well with 9-1 records. Out of the eight players who have seen singles action, five have winning records.
On the other hand, Alabama A&M has struggled this season, currently sitting at 0-6. They recently lost 5-2 to Austin Peay, making their dual match singles record a tough 1-23.
Alabama State comes into the weekend with a 5-7 record. They recently pulled off a 4-3 win against Columbus State, with Lun Obrul holding the best singles record on the team at 6-2. Combined, the Hornets have a singles record of 22-36 and a doubles record of 15-16.
