Discover Wear OS 6: Exciting Customization Options, Vibrant Color Themes, and Latest Material Design Updates [Gallery Inside]

Google has just rolled out its first sneak peek of Wear OS 6, and there are some exciting changes coming. Let’s dive into what’s new!

Fresh Design with Material 3

Wear OS 6 is built on Android 16, introducing a new design called Material 3. You’ll notice it in various places—like the app drawer and notifications. The buttons have a fresh “bubble” shape to fit better with the screen’s curves. This makes everything look modern and clean.

The Quick Settings menu is also getting a makeover with bolder icons. Even the animations on the unlock page are updated to match this new style. While this is just the beginning, Google plans to make more adjustments before the full release. Some features, like toggle buttons, still look old but will be updated soon.

Customizable Themes

One of the standout features in Wear OS 6 is the new customizable color themes. It adjusts automatically based on your selected watch face, ensuring everything looks cohesive. Users will get a notification that it’s “Applying theme” whenever they switch faces.

You can also manually choose from eight color themes, ranging from earthy tones to bright colors. Some examples include:

  • Moonstone: Gray & purple
  • Indigo: Blue with pink accents
  • Peony: Pink and maroon

Feel free to turn off the colors altogether for a simpler look!

When’s the Release?

Currently, Wear OS 6 is only available as a preview in Android Studio. The official rollout hasn’t started yet. Historically, it’s likely that Samsung’s next Galaxy Watch, expected in July, will be the first to feature this update, followed by the Pixel Watch later in the year.

What do you think about these updates? Will you be trying them out once available?
