Discover Wellness: Join Montgomery School No. 50’s Annual Health Fair for Vital Health Tips and Resources!

Rochester, N.Y. — This Saturday, Helen Barrett Montgomery School No. 50 will hold its third annual Health and Wellness Fair. The event honors Barbara “Punkin” Love, a beloved figure at the school who faced stage 4 breast cancer. She passed away just six weeks after her diagnosis in June 2022, highlighting the critical need for accessible preventative care.

Love’s story is a powerful reminder of how early screenings can save lives. Her family believes that better access to health resources might have changed her outcome. This event aims to educate the community about health and provide connections to essential resources.

Principal Lakisha Taylor, who has been a strong advocate for her students and families, continues Love’s legacy. “We want to break down barriers and promote health education,” she says. “It’s about giving everyone the tools they need.”

This year, the fair will bring in several health partners, such as the University of Rochester’s Wilmot Cancer Center and Trillium Health. These organizations will provide information and services ranging from screenings to wellness guidance.

According to the American Cancer Society, early detection can significantly increase survival rates. The fair, running until 3 p.m., aims to empower attendees with knowledge and resources that can promote a healthier future.

Helen Barrett Montgomery School No. 50 is located at 301 Seneca Avenue in Rochester.
