Discover What Awaits You at This Year’s Farmers’ Market: Fresh Finds and Exciting Events!

The Belmont Farmers’ Market is set to open on June 4, kicking off its 2026 season. Each Thursday afternoon, the Claflin Street parking lot will buzz with life as local vendors gather to offer fresh food and handmade goods.

Hal Shubin, chair of the market committee, shares, “It’s a fantastic community event. It’s lovely to see people enjoying music and spending time together.”

What’s New for 2026?

This year, the market welcomes 13 new vendors, bringing the total to over 40. You’ll find a mix of fresh produce, baked goods, and even personal care products. Just a few of the newcomers include:

  • Drumlin Farm, Mass Audubon
  • Lucky Bao Bakery
  • Sweet from Scratch
  • Annavana Foods
  • Hoppy Pop

The market also features live music and a community tent, where residents can connect with local officials. Plus, a special fundraising day will benefit Belmont High School clubs.

Addressing Food Insecurity

The Belmont Farmers’ Market takes food assistance seriously. With food insecurity rising in Belmont, the market helps those in need by doubling SNAP benefits up to $25 a week. Last year, 720 households were enrolled in SNAP, which is just a glimpse of the larger issue.

Suzanne Johannet, president of the Belmont Food Collaborative, emphasizes, “We want healthy food to be available to everyone, regardless of their income.” In addition to SNAP, the market introduced HIP+, assisting those who may not qualify for other programs.

Last year, the market provided over $51,000 in food assistance through various initiatives.

Engaging the Community’s Youngest

The POP Kids Club also plays a key role by giving kids market money to spend on fresh produce. “It empowers them to become young meal planners and shoppers,” Shubin explains. This initiative fosters healthy eating habits in the community’s youngest members.

Opening day will feature the fifth Food Assistance Information Fair, helping families connect with local resources and raising awareness about food insecurity.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you’re looking to get involved, the market is seeking volunteers. Help set up, assist with social media, or coordinate food assistance programs. Interested individuals can find more on the Belmont Farmers’ Market website.

The market will run every Thursday at 2 p.m., starting with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on June 4. Join the fun and support local businesses while enjoying fresh food and community spirit!
