ABU DHABI: Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, the secretary-general of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), shared that environmental sustainability is a behavior deeply rooted in the UAE’s culture. This commitment to the environment comes from values taught by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) ahead of the 28th National Environment Day, which falls on February 4, Al Dhaheri highlighted the slogan for this year: “Our Roots, Our Future.” She emphasized that the UAE’s dedication to preserving nature is supported by its leadership, particularly President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This dedication transforms environmental stewardship into a national responsibility, passed down through generations.
The EAD remains focused on environmental preservation through various initiatives aimed at minimizing ecological harm. Their efforts include:
- Conserving freshwater resources.
- Setting air quality standards.
- Protecting marine and terrestrial biodiversity.
Collective action is essential for achieving a more sustainable future. Al Dhaheri believes that united efforts can bring about significant change for the environment and improve life for future generations.
National Environment Day reminds the UAE of its responsibility towards the environment and promotes global conservation efforts. It encourages everyone to participate in protecting their surroundings and raises awareness about the importance of sustainability.
