These days, Josh Duhamel enjoys a quieter life away from Hollywood. He splits his time between Minnesota and North Dakota, embracing family life. In his new film, “London Calling,” he takes on the role of Tommy, a hitman on the run after a mission goes wrong. His journey leads him to Los Angeles, where he unexpectedly finds himself babysitting his crime boss’s son, Julian.
Duhamel talks about the balance between career and family, saying, “Not much shoots in Los Angeles anymore, so you’re sort of forced to go on the road.” He reflects on his early days in Minot, North Dakota, feeling eager to leave for the bright lights of city life. “I couldn’t wait to go out into the world and explore,” he shares.
Now, he appreciates his roots more than ever. “I didn’t think I’d ever want to go back,” he says, but over the past few years, he’s realized how important his hometown is to him. “It’s kept me grounded.” He believes his friends and family help keep him on the right path, especially after facing challenges in his career.
Duhamel has also created a cozy lakeside retreat in Minnesota. He describes it as “doomsday ready,” hinting at a simpler way of living without modern conveniences for several years. “It was almost like homesteading,” he recalls, grabbing wood for the fire and focusing on essential needs.
His family—wife Audra Mari and sons Axl and Shepherd—don’t live there full-time, but they treasure the moments spent “deep in the woods.” “We try to spend as much time as we can out there,” he says, finding joy in making memories away from the hustle.
At 52, Duhamel values his privacy and a back-to-basics lifestyle. “As I’ve gotten older, I think I just wanted that,” he reflects, signaling a shift in priorities that many can relate to as they navigate the demands of modern life.
