Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently highlighted the importance of agriculture in India, calling it the “soul of Indian civilization.” He made this remark while announcing the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC 2025), set to take place at Bharat Mandapam on October 30 and 31.
Goyal stated that this event will be the world’s biggest gathering focused on the rice industry. It aims to connect farmers, exporters, global buyers, policymakers, and others involved in agriculture.
During his video message, he emphasized rice as a crucial part of India’s agricultural pride. BIRC 2025 focuses on showcasing India’s diverse rice offerings and promoting business connections within the industry.
Organized by the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) alongside the Ministry of Commerce, this conference serves as a key platform for stakeholders in the rice sector. It seeks to bolster India’s goal to double agricultural and agribusiness exports over the next five years. Goyal expressed confidence that this event will enhance India’s commitment to supporting farmers while pursuing trade opportunities.
India is currently the world’s leading rice producer, with an output of 145 million metric tons, outpacing China. This achievement gives India more than 40% of the global rice market and positions it as a vital player in global food security.
Goyal encouraged attendees to focus on building credibility rather than just aiming for export numbers. He urged everyone to think big and innovate, promoting value-added rice products and exploring new markets.
As he concluded, Goyal called upon everyone to unite for “Viksit Bharat 2047,” a vision focused on improving the future for farmers and ensuring a prosperous agricultural sector. This spirit of collaboration and innovation can propel India towards establishing itself as a trusted global brand in the rice industry.
