VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Regent University Honors College has been recognized as a Hidden Gem by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) for its impressive interdisciplinary education and dedicated faculty.
“We’re excited to receive this honor from ACTA,” said Dr. Simon Tarr, Dean of the Honors College. “It reflects our commitment to rigorous academics, research opportunities, and spiritual growth. Our goal is to foster a lively learning community that prepares students for successful careers and meaningful lives.”
ACTA’s Hidden Gems initiative showcases top programs across the country that provide quality, interdisciplinary liberal arts education. Schools with this designation are known for their small classes, collaborative learning, and opportunities for original research and mentorship.
Regent’s Honors College stands among notable institutions like Purdue University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which also received this recognition.
In 2018, Regent University earned an “A” rating from ACTA’s “What Will They Learn?” assessment, which helps students in choosing universities focused on career-oriented education and active citizenship. This kind of recognition is crucial in today’s job market, where employers increasingly seek graduates with well-rounded skills.
According to a recent survey conducted by the Association of American Colleges and Universities, 80% of employers believe that a strong liberal arts education is essential for success in today’s workforce. Programs like those offered at Regent’s Honors College align closely with these employer expectations, focusing on critical thinking and effective communication.
Regent University has a long tradition of excellence. Founded in 1977, it serves over 13,000 students on its 70-acre Virginia Beach campus and online. With more than 150 degree programs, it covers vital fields like business, communication, nursing, and law. Notably, it has received accolades including the #1 Best Accredited Online College (Study.com, 2020) and the #1 Safest College Campus in Virginia (YourLocalSecurity, 2021).
