Apple is set to unveil the fourth-generation iPhone SE soon. This new model promises some exciting updates, including an OLED display and Face ID. It will also feature Apple’s very first in-house 5G modem, made by TSMC.
This is a big shift for Apple, as the company has typically relied on chipmakers like Intel and Qualcomm for their modem technology. However, a recent report from South Korea suggests that this new modem might not stack up against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75.
One key drawback is that Apple’s modem won’t support mmWave 5G, which means it may not handle high-speed connections as well. Additionally, it could include fewer features for carrier aggregation, which may lead to slower upload and download speeds compared to the iPhone 16 series, which will use the faster Snapdragon X75 modem.
This isn’t surprising, as Apple may be using this more affordable iPhone model to test its new modem tech. Early rumors point out that the modem might support Dual Sim Dual Standby and work closely with Apple’s main processors for better efficiency.
