Booking.com has shared its 13th annual Traveler Review Awards, spotlighting the most welcoming places around the globe for 2025. The rankings come from a three-year average of over 360 million verified reviews from travelers on their website and app.

At the top of the list this year is Sigiriya, a charming village in Sri Lanka. This little town, home to about 1,000 people, is located in the heart of the country’s “Cultural Triangle.” It’s a scenic three-hour drive from Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital.
Sigiriya is famous for the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that towers 1,200 feet above the landscape. Once a royal capital in the late 5th century, this ancient site features the ruins of a grand palace at the top, which you can reach by climbing 1,300 steps.
Travelers can explore the region’s rich history at the Sigiriya Museum. For those interested in local crafts, the Sigiriya Craft Village offers beautiful handmade batiks and textiles. Wildlife lovers should visit Minneriya National Park, known for “The Gathering,” the largest gathering of Asian elephants, which happens yearly from July to October. Don’t miss the Dambulla Cave Temple, the largest cave temple in Sri Lanka, which has been in use for over 2,000 years.
If you’re looking for a luxurious stay, consider Jetwing Vil Uyana, which offers 36 rooms in a stunning natural setting. Another great option is the eco-friendly Roo Mansala, featuring breathtaking views of Sigiriya Rock and Pidurangala Rock.
Following Sigiriya, the second spot on Booking.com’s list goes to Cazorla in Spain, a picturesque town surrounded by olive trees and mountains. The town’s highlight is the historic Yedra Castle, known as the “Castle of the Four Corners.” The other top destinations include Urubici, Brazil; Taupo, New Zealand; and St. Augustine, Florida.
