Three programs from the UConn School of Business have made it to the 2025 Best Online (Non-MBA) Programs list by U.S. News & World Report. The Financial Technology (FinTech), Human Resources Management (MSHRM), and Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) are all ranked 12th in the nation. This is a big deal, especially as the FinTech and MSHRM programs are newcomers to the rankings, while the MSA has a long-standing reputation.
Professor Jose M. Cruz, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, expressed pride in this ranking. He highlighted the hard work put into creating robust online program options. “Our focus on academic excellence and student success shows in this achievement. It reinforces our commitment to empowering students in a fast-changing world,” he noted.
This year, over 1,600 online degree programs were assessed based on factors like student engagement and the quality of the programs, specifically for non-MBA courses.
Strong Programs Built on Community and Quality
The 36-credit master’s degree in FinTech blends business, technology, and analytics. It prepares students for leadership roles in various sectors like finance, medicine, and real estate.
Professor John Wilson, the academic director, stated, “Since its start, the UConn MS FinTech program aimed to be global. The new online format provides flexibility for students, making us stand out in the field.”
The Human Resources Management program requires 33 credits and teaches skills to lead HR departments effectively. In the latest survey, 71% of graduates reported promotions or new jobs during their studies.
Professor Travis Grosser, who leads the MSHRM department, emphasized the importance of camaraderie. “By working together in cohorts, students build strong relationships that enhance their learning experience. Many friendships formed here last well beyond the program,” he shared.
The 30-credit MSA program is designed to help students meet the educational requirements for CPA licensing. It focuses on contemporary issues in accounting and is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Last year, the program celebrated 25 years of success.
Professor Joshua Racca, the MSA program director, praised the program’s long-standing reputation for excellence, saying, “Our high-achieving faculty, staff, and committed students make the MSA program a leader in accounting education.”
