The recent Open Doors 2025 report by the Institute of International Education (IIE) highlights some impressive findings regarding study abroad programs. According to the report, 85.7% of Wake Forest undergraduates received credits for their time abroad during the 2023-24 academic year, placing the university fourth among doctoral institutions.
David Taylor, the Assistant Dean of Global Study Away Programs, noted that these numbers reflect a strong desire among students to gain a global understanding. He emphasizes Wake Forest’s commitment to providing these vital opportunities.
The report also stated that in the academic year 2024-2025, U.S. colleges welcomed 1.2 million international students, marking a 5% increase from the prior year. This growth signals a renewed interest in global education as students seek diverse experiences.
Wake Forest recently launched its first issue of Global Gauge magazine during International Education Week. This publication aims to showcase the university’s global reach and the importance of international collaboration. It features stories from various countries, including London, the Amazon, and Morocco, reflecting the university’s diverse partnerships.
Kline Harrison, Vice Provost for Global Affairs, mentioned that Global Gauge is essential in displaying Wake Forest’s commitment to global education.
International Education Week (IEW), celebrated from November 17-21, promotes the benefits of international education. It began as a joint initiative by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. Wake Forest organized a Night Market during this week, featuring international food, music, crafts, and games, which brought together students for a cultural celebration.
