Discover Your Future: AHEC Health Careers Showcase at Northern Kentucky University on September 30!

The North Central Area Health Education Center (NC AHEC) is gearing up for its annual Health Careers Showcase at Northern Kentucky University on September 30. This event is a fantastic chance for high school students to explore various career paths in healthcare.

Students will learn about over 30 health careers, such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, and pharmacy. They’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insights from educators, current students, and professionals working in the field. They can find out everything from job responsibilities to salary expectations and future job prospects.

This year, about 21 high schools are participating, bringing in over 800 students. Last year, 773 students from 27 schools attended, showing a growing interest in healthcare careers among young people.

Representatives from prominent institutions like St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and the Northern Kentucky Health Department will be present to share their experiences. Faculty members from colleges such as Gateway Community and Technical College, the University of Kentucky, Northern Kentucky University, and Mount St. Joseph University will also join in.

One exciting aspect of the showcase is the hands-on activities at many booths. This gives students a practical taste of what working in healthcare is like, which can be vital in determining their career choices.

The importance of such events is highlighted by rising figures in the healthcare workforce. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that healthcare jobs will grow by 13% from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. This growth means more opportunities for aspiring healthcare professionals.
