LINCOLN, Neb. — A fresh app is shaking up how university students find housing in Lincoln. Partnering with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, the app called myhousr makes it easier for students to locate available rental properties in the area.
This app allows students to explore open listings, complete with details on space, amenities, and pricing. They can easily connect with landlords and arrange property viewings, streamlining a process that often causes students stress. As President Craig Joseph puts it, “It’s like Tinder meets Airbnb meets WhatsApp meets Groupon, all in one.”
The company behind myhousr launched about four years ago, and Lincoln is its first U.S. market. They have even set up an office at UNL’s innovation campus. Joseph points out that housing issues greatly affect students’ academic paths. Many students struggle to find suitable housing, which contributes to them dropping out after their first year. “Either they leave it too late, it’s too expensive, or the quality is too poor,” he said. His app aims to simplify this search, letting students find housing with just a few taps.
One massive perk is that all students get a free account using their UNL ID. For landlords, the app provides an opportunity to list their properties by signing up and completing a verification process.
Additionally, Joseph mentioned that students could earn discounts at local businesses by using the app. More features are also in the pipeline, including options for subletting, rideshares, and a community marketplace.
