Students from Arabic and French classes at St. Lawrence University recently embarked on a cultural trip to Montreal. This adventure transformed their classroom lessons into a hands-on experience.
The day kicked off with lunch at Andalos Lebanese Cuisine. Here, students dug into Middle Eastern dishes while practicing their Arabic. It was a delicious way to see their studies in action.
Their first stop was the stunning Notre-Dame Basilica. The architecture was awe-inspiring, and it reflected the rich French-Canadian heritage. It reminded students of the vital role the French language plays in the region today. According to a recent study, approximately 7.5 million people in Canada speak French, highlighting the language’s importance.
Next, they wandered through Place Jacques-Cartier. This lively square buzzed with street performers, cafés, and charm. It was the perfect backdrop for informal conversations and practicing their French. A recent survey revealed that many language learners benefit greatly from real-world practice in such vibrant environments.
The day wrapped up at Crêperie St. Paul, where they savored traditional French crêpes. Afterward, they strolled along the picturesque Old Port. The trip offered plenty of moments for students to immerse themselves in both language and culture.
