Disney is facing serious scrutiny in a wrongful death lawsuit tied to a tragic incident at a restaurant in Disney Springs. This case has captured national attention.
The issue centers on food testing results from leftovers eaten by Kanokporn “Amy” Tangsuan, who passed away from severe food allergies after dining at Raglan Road restaurant in October 2023. Disney wants to keep these test results confidential, but this has raised eyebrows.
Brian Denney, the attorney representing Tangsuan’s widower, Jeffrey Piccolo, questions why the results should remain secret. He noted in a recent court filing that Disney and Raglan Road have a history of serving people with allergies improperly. In fact, just a month before Tangsuan’s death, another guest had an allergic reaction due to contaminated food.
Piccolo had taken his wife’s leftovers home, unknowingly preserving evidence for the lawsuit. Tragically, Tangsuan died only hours after their meal, despite alerting the staff about her dairy allergy. An autopsy revealed that she had anaphylaxis due to dairy, which should not have been present in her meal.

Denney emphasized the need for transparency, especially when public safety is involved. He stated, “When a case involves the safety of food served to the public, transparency should be the rule, not the exception.”
The test results will be crucial in the trial against Disney and Raglan Road, and Denney plans to use them as key evidence moving forward.
Despite requests for comments on this case, both Disney and Raglan Road have stayed silent. Denney criticized them for being overly secretive, claiming that many documents in this case aren’t true trade secrets and should be accessible to the public. For example, the restaurant’s menu is available to anyone who dines there, making its designation as “confidential” puzzling.
This lawsuit has also brought Disney under fire for its legal tactics. Initially, the company tried to push the case into arbitration, using fine print from Disney+ service and theme park ticket policies as justification. However, after facing backlash, they changed their stance, allowing the lawsuit to proceed in court.
Tangsuan, a 42-year-old physician from New York, is remembered not just for her profession, but for her warm spirit and kindness. The discussions surrounding this case have also sparked conversations on social media about food safety in restaurants and how establishments handle allergy concerns.
