Jackson’s journey in the NFL has been quite a ride. Drafted in the fifth round by the Saints in 2022 from Appalachian State, he faced challenges right from the start, spending his rookie season on injured reserve. However, he bounced back, playing in 17 games in 2023 and 10 in 2024, primarily as a special teams player.
On August 26, after being waived by the Saints, he was quickly claimed by the Bears. Since then, he has transformed into a key player, stepping up as an injury replacement. Jackson participated in all 13 games and made his first four NFL starts, totaling 41 tackles, three pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and even recorded his first interception and sack.
His former defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, who was at the helm during Jackson’s time in New Orleans, expressed pride in his development. “He’s played well for us,” Allen said. His words reflect the trust that coaches have in players who are ready when opportunities arise.
Jackson himself feels grateful for his situation. “I see it as a blessing,” he shared. “Going from special teams to getting the chance to really contribute on defense has been incredible.” His determination shines through, especially considering he faced uncertainty after being waived.
When the Bears called, Jackson viewed it as “a new path” in his career. “I always believed in my skills, but I didn’t know where I’d land,” he explained. Moving to Chicago reenergized him, and he appreciated how the organization built his confidence back up.
This season, Jackson’s efforts were recognized when he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week, making him the first Bear to earn that title since cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. He also joined fellow teammates Williams, Loveland, and Blackwell, who have all received player of the week honors this season.
It’s important to remember that Jackson’s rise showcases the unpredictable nature of sports. A player can go from being sidelined to the spotlight in just a matter of days. According to a recent survey by the NFL Players Association, over 60% of players believe that perseverance is key in navigating their careers. Jackson’s story is a testament to that belief.
With his hard work and a coach who believes in him, Jackson is making the most of his opportunity in Chicago. As fans, we can look forward to seeing more from him as the season unfolds.
