DNCC Administrator Opens New Eidgah and Playground in Uttarkhan
DHAKA, March 17, 2026 (BSS) – The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator, Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, has inaugurated a new Eidgah and playground in the Madhyapara area of Uttarkhan, specifically within Ward-45.
During the opening ceremony, he emphasized that this space would not just serve for Eid prayers but also act as a cultural hub for the community. It’s designed for everyone—men, women, and children can all enjoy it safely.
Khan touched on urban issues, especially the fight against mosquitoes. He pointed out that relying solely on insecticides isn’t enough; the community must be educated and maintain cleanliness to combat pests effectively. This aligns with expert views on integrated pest management, which stress that public involvement is crucial for long-term solutions.
The DNCC executed the project under its Environment, Climate and Disaster Management Circle, investing Tk 279.42 crore from its own budget. The Eidgah comfortably accommodates about 1,250 worshippers, with designated areas for funeral prayers as well.
Facilities include a well-planned 150-meter drainage system and walkways. The complex is also equipped with separate amenities for men, women, and people with disabilities. Modern toilets, safe water supply, and proper ablution facilities enhance usability.
For children, the adjoining playground is a highlight, featuring football gear, a water pump, and multiple gates for easy access. It’s designed with greenery, seating options, and waste bins to encourage a clean, inviting environment.
This new facility aims to support both religious observances during Eid and recreational activities year-round, promoting a more vibrant and healthier urban setting. According to a recent survey, access to such community spaces significantly improves public health and social interaction, key aspects of urban well-being.
As communities like Uttarkhan expand, the creation of inclusive spaces reflects a growing trend in urban development—one that prioritizes accessibility and public engagement. This initiative not only enhances the local area but sets an example for other neighborhoods to follow.
